i suggest low burning gas with fake logs or try a smaller -to- bigger(depending on size) duraflame 2-4 hrs.

You can use wood scraps from a lumberyard. Usually they either give them away or sell them cheap. Pine, oak, ash is good with the oak burning longer. As for starting it you will need kindling wood, like fallen small dry branches and some wadded up newspaper. Save your junk mail too, that will also start the kindling wood. Avocado wood burns very clean but I don’t know if you can buy the logs in Florida. We can here in Calif when the Avocado Groves have to be cut down for one reason or another. We buy our wood for our wood burning pot belly stove from a wood peddler. One or two cords at a time. We buy oak and eucalyptus for keeping us warm in the winter.
